Wisk Aero has shown off its 6th generation aircraft, which they say is the world’s first autonomous air taxi. It is an all-electric four-seater that can fly without a human pilot, but they haven’t shown any certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration FAA yet.
Before starting any kind of commercial service, the FAA makes aviation companies get all three kinds of verification. So, the plane has to meet all of the FAA’s rules for design and safety. The company will need to get a production certification before it can start its air taxi service.
The plane says that the company can fly between 2,500 and 4,000 feet above the ground at a cruising speed of 120 knots and a range of 90 miles with extra fuel.
The air taxi has 12 propellers on top of its wings, each of which can be tilted to different degrees. It can carry four people and show them how to stay safe by touching screens.
Its goal is to develop an app-accessible air taxi service similar to Uber.
The company came up with this idea to make flying more reliable, cheaper, faster, and safer for people.
