Users can protect their privacy and avoid being targeted by trolls by selectively mentioning people and preventing their own accounts from being mentioned. Hopefully, this will help reduce the prevalence of harassment and bullying on the site, making it a better overall experience.

Twitter hasn’t said when they’ll launch the functionality, though.
